19.VII 1956 – The Dubrovnik company for overseas shipping Atlantska Plovidba received its first steamship. It was called „Banija“ but all the citizens of Dubrovnik knew that it was the good old "Saint Blaise", the steamer with the name of their patron saint. It was built in 1928 in the shipyard Lithgows Ltd in Port Glasgow, UK, and was named St Blaise. Its capacity was 9832 DWT, lenght 133.96, width 17.07, height 9.55 meters. Its propulsion: coal powered reciprocating steam engine. Its power: 2354KW, speed 11 knots. The owner: The Dubrovnik Steamship Company AD, Dubrovnik. In 1946 it was nationalized under the name of Banija. On the 14th of December 1955 it became the part of the Atlantska Plovidba fleet as its first ship.
